In Brief Moment of Bipartisanship, Trump Signs Opioid Bill
SUPPORT for Patients and Communities Act
As Members of Congress continue to battle it out with just a little over a week to go beforethe midterm elections, there was a rare moment of bipartisan accomplishment back in Washington. President Trump signed into law H.R.6, the “SUPPORT for Patients and Communities Act,” legislation that takes significant steps to address the opioid crisis gripping the country. The bill was the result of bipartisan cooperation among members of both the House and Senate. BUT, the bipartisanship didn’t last long…after praising the law, Energy and Commerce Ranking Member Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) issued a stern rebuke of his Republican colleagues, saying, ““While this opioid package builds on our prior work to respond to the opioid crisis, we cannot forget the tremendous harm Republican policies would inflict on the same people this package seeks to help.”
