Mueller Report Redactions Subject to Federal Judge’s Review
A federal judge in Washington, D.C., expressed doubt about Attorney General William Barr’s credibility and said he’ll conduct an “independent review” of the Mueller report to determine whether the Justice Department properly redacted it.
U.S. District Judge Reggie Walton in Washington said Thursday he had concerns that Barr sought to “create a one-sided narrative” in summarizing the report so it would be favorable to President Donald Trump.
“The court must conclude that the actions of Attorney General Barr and his representations about the Mueller Report preclude the court’s acceptance of the validity of the Department’s redactions without its independent verification,” Walton said in a Freedom of Information Act case filed by the Electronic Privacy Information Center and Buzzfeed Inc. to get access to the un-redacted 381-page report.
