Multiple Rockets Fall Near US Embassy in Baghdad

Three rockets fell inside Baghdad’s Green Zone on Tuesday morning, with a couple of them hitting near the U.S. Embassy in Iraq, according to multiple reports.

Based on video taken by a BBC reporter at the embassy complex, rocket attack alarms sounded while an announcement asked people to take shelter.

“Rocket attack alarms sounding off multiple times on the #US #Baghdad Embassy Complex and Union III. Heard the booms myself on Union III. Speakers telling all to take shelter immediately.”

Sources from the Iraqi police told Reuters that the rockets came from the Zafaraniyah district outside Baghdad, and two of them landed near the embassy. The sources say there were no casualties from the attack.

This is the second time in the past two weeks that rockets have landed inside the Green Zone in Baghdad, which is generally considered to be a safe area. The last attack came on Jan. 8, and also resulted in no damage or casualties.
