California Senate: Adam Schiff (D)

About California
Campaign Website
Perhaps best known nationally for leading the first House impeachment and trial of former President Donald Trump, Democrat Adam Schiff has been a member of Congress since 2001.
Schiff grew up in the Bay Area, graduating from Danville’s Monte Vista High School before attending Stanford University and Harvard Law School.
After law school, Adam served as a federal prosecutor in Los Angeles where he successfully prosecuted FBI agent turned-Russian spy Richard Miller and started the first federal environmental crimes unit in Los Angeles, going after polluters and toxic waste dumpers.
As a State senator, a job he won in 1996, Schiff wrote dozens of bills with both Republicans and Democrats, all while teaching political science courses as a part-time professor at Glendale Community College.
Schiff’s election to Congress was noteworthy in that he flipped a long-held Republican seat in what was, at the time, the most expensive congressional race in history.
Today he represents California’s 30th Congressional District, which is centered in the San Gabriel Valley east of Los Angeles and includes Pasadena, Glendale, Burbank, West Hollywood, and the Los Angeles neighborhoods of Hollywood, Sunland-Tujunga, Edendale, Park La Brea, Hancock Park, and Echo Park.
Once in Congress, he focused on protecting national security and democracy, fighting for our planet, and creating a more equitable economy.
As chairman of the House Intelligence Committee – a position he was removed from by then-Republican House Speaker Kevin McCarthy — Schiff was on the front lines of the struggle to preserve democracy, uphold the rule of law and hold insurrectionists accountable.
He is the lead author of a landmark package of reforms to prevent future abuses of executive power and reinforce our democratic institutions — The Protecting our Democracy Act — and has been a champion of expanding the voting rights of all Americans.
On his campaign website, Schiff says he is running for Senate because he “knows that we can only lower the cost of groceries, gas, and housing if leaders work together, and get the government and the economy working for everyone.”
Schiff is an avid cyclist, has run numerous triathlons, and is the first member of Congress to ride the 550 mile AIDS/LifeCycle.
He and his wife Eve have two children, Lexi and Eli.
