AL-02: Shomari Figures (D)

Shomari Figures, a native of Mobile, Alabama, has dedicated his career to public service, inspired by his parents, Michael and Vivian Figures, who were prominent public servants. His father, a state senator and lawyer, was known for his work in civil rights, notably bankrupting the United Klans of America through a landmark lawsuit. Figures’s mother has continued to serve as a state senator, focusing on women’s rights and improvements in health and education.
Figures graduated from the University of Alabama and its law school, following in his father’s footsteps. He began his public service career as a law clerk and worked on President Barack Obama’s campaign. He subsequently served in the Obama administration as the domestic director of presidential personnel and later held positions at the Department of Justice and as legislative counsel in Congress.
He most recently served as deputy chief of staff and counselor to U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland before deciding to run for Congress in Alabama’s new 2nd Congressional District. His campaign focuses on health care, education, economic development, and rural issues, aiming to bring more resources and representation to his home state.
Figures is a married father of three children.
