WA-10: Keith Swank (R)
Keith Swank is a U.S. Army veteran and Seattle Police Captain.
Over his career as an officer Swank continually answered the call of those in need, sometimes on the worst day of their lives. He dedicated his life to protecting the public and doing so as humanely as possible.
He grew up on a small farm in rural Pennsylvania where he learned a strong work ethic.
At 18 he enlisted in the U.S. Army. In the Army he graduated from Ranger School, Airborne School, High Altitude Low Opening, and Infantry Training.
After being honorably discharged from the Army at Fort Lewis, he enrolled at the University of Washington.
During his freshman year he heard the call to serve the public again, this time as an officer in the Seattle Police Department.
After graduating from the police academy, he also graduated from the University of Washington with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology.
In between his two stints as a watch commander on the police force, he was second in command of the training unit. In 2017 he was promoted to captain and worked as the night duty commander, the highest-ranking officer in the city at night.
He trained officers around the country as an expert in de-escalation and crisis intervention. His time as an officer taught him how to communicate with diverse communities, and how to make life-or-death decisions quickly and manage efficiently.
