OK SENATE: Markwayne Mullin (R)

Republican Mark Wayne “Markwayne” Mullin, a former professional mixed martial arts fighter, was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on July 26, 1977, and has represented Oklahoma’s 2nd congressional district since 2013.
Prior to becoming a lawmaker and mixed martial arts fighter, Mullin had a lengthy and varied career in business.
He took over his father’s business, Mullin Plumbing, at age 20, after his father fell ill, and also owns Mullin Properties, Mullin Farms, and Mullin Services.
He hosted House Talk, a home improvement radio program syndicated across Oklahoma, on Tulsa station KFAQ.
Mullin initially ran for Congress with the campaign slogan “A rancher. A businessman. Not a politician,” and with his successful election he became the first Republican to represent the district since 2001.
Each of his elections since have seen him win by an ever-widening margin of the vote.
A staunch conservative, Mullin condemned the Supreme Court’s 2015 ruling in Obergefell v. Hodges, which held that same-sex marriage bans violated the constitution.
Along with all other Senate and House Republicans, Mullin voted against the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021, and in August 2022, he came out against President Joe Biden’s student loan forgiveness plan.
During the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol, Mullin and Reps. Troy Nehls, R-Texas, and Pat Fallon, R-Texas, reportedly helped the U.S. Capitol Police build barricades and protect the doors to the House chamber from the rioters.
