NJ-07: Tom Kean (R)

Kean began his career in politics in the George H.W. Bush administration in the Environmental Protection Agency. He proceeded to work for Rep. Bob Franks in the nation’s Capital, focusing on energy resources, commerce, environmental issues and foreign affairs.
Following his time in America’s capital, he attended the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University. There, he received a master’s degree in law and diplomacy, and was also employed as a graduate school instructor.
Kean was a volunteer fireman and medical technician, working his way up to vice president of a fire department station.
Kean earned a place on the New Jersey General Assembly in 2001 and was later elected to the state legislature’s upper house. Kean was recognized for his work in civil service and was one of 40 politicians to be chosen as a Toll Fellow by the Council of State Governments.
Kean works closely with the New Jersey Council on the Arts, the New Jersey Amistad Commission and the New Jersey Israel Commission. In addition, he serves as an honorary member on the board of trustees at the New Jersey Festival Orchestra and the Paper Mill Playhouse.
Kean is the grandson of former U.S. Rep. Robert Kean and son of former Gov. Thomas H. Kean, Sr. Today Kean and his wife Rhonda raise their two children in Westfield, New Jersey.
