CO-08: Yadira Caraveo (D)

Dr. Yadira Caraveo is a pediatrician-turned-politician currently serving as a representative in the Colorado State House.
The daughter of Mexican immigrants, Caraveo grew up in Adams County, Colorado, going to public school and then received her bachelor’s degree from Regis University, eventually going to medical school at the University of Colorado.
As a medical resident she served as a union representative to get better working conditions. And when she came back to Adams County to practice as a pediatrician, Caraveo realized about 65% of her patients were on Medicare.
So, she went back to those organizing roots by running for state representative, and winning. During her time in the legislature she’s worked on bills to lower the cost of prescription drugs, limit pollution, expand preschool and paid family leave, all while continuing her pediatric practice.
Caraveo still lives in Adams County, not far from her parents.
