CA-15: David Canepa (D)
The son of a chauffeur and a bank branch manager, David Canepa is a 4th generation son of San Mateo County and lifelong resident. He is the former mayor of Daly City and president of the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors,
He launched his campaign for Congress at Seton Medical Center, where he was born and led the county’s efforts to save the vital hospital and employer from bankruptcy. Just months after it was saved, Seton became the county’s COVID-19 command center.
A Skyline Community College and University of San Francisco graduate, he was the first in his family to graduate, and as supervisor, he has made free community college tuition a reality for hundreds of San Mateo County students.
Canepa’s wife Ana was born in El Salvador, and he has made immigration reform a priority for San Mateo, working with Sheriff Bolanos to end transfers to ICE and expand the County’s immigration and legal services. He also designated San Mateo County a hate-free zone.
In addition to serving on the Board of Supervisors, he is a member of the Metropolitan Transportation Commission and Bay Area Air Quality Management District.
