WY Senate: Cynthia Lummis (R)

About Lummis:

Born in Cheyenne, Wyo., Cynthia Lummis served as Wyoming’s state representative from 1979 to 1993, state senator from 1993 to 1995 and state treasurer from 1999 to 2007. During that time, she supported policy decisions on a variety of issues including U.S. Defense spending, the Iran Nuclear Deal, and the banning of abortions after 20 weeks.

Lummis’ campaign has focused on President Trump’s ‘America First’ agenda. Lummis is in favor of cutting the national debt, believing that cutting the budget slightly from every agency and program is the best way to reduce spending and balance the budget. Lummis has also pushed for the protection of civil liberties. Lummis is opposed to universal health care and is in favor of repealing the Affordable Care Act, citing her own husband not qualifying for coverage and his subsequent death in 2014 as “proof of its ineffectiveness.”

Lummis currently operates and maintains her family’s cattle ranch in Laramie County along with her brother and sister. Lummis has one daughter, Annaliese Wiederspahn, and a grandson, Doran Augustus “Gus” Cole.
