About Cunningham:
Cal Cunningham is running for election to the U.S. Senate to represent North Carolina. Born and raised in Lexington, N.C., Cunningham has lived in North Carolina all his life. After earning his undergraduate and law degrees at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Cunningham and his wife Elizabeth started raising their family.
At the age of 27, he served as a member of the North Carolina State Senate.
After September 11, 2001, Cunningham joined the U.S. Army Reserve and has since served three active duty tours, including overseas in Iraq and Afghanistan. He was awarded the Bronze Star and the General Douglas MacArthur Leadership Award.
In recent years, Cunningham has trained special operations forces at the U.S. Army John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School. He continues to serve in the rank of Lieutenant Colonel with an Army Reserve unit that trains one weekend a month.
Currently, he resides in Raleigh, N.C., with his wife and two teenage kids, Caroline and Will.
