Short Bio: Steve Bullock, Montana’s former attorney general, was elected Montana’s 24th governor on November 6, 2012.

Bullock, 53, is a proven leader who has successfully brought people together to get things done for the state of Montana.

Born and raised in Montana, Steve has spent his career fighting on behalf of workers, students and families. As governor, he works to make Montana stronger for future generations, ensuring that his own three kids – and all young Montanans – are able to enjoy the same opportunities afforded to all of us who grew up here.

Working with a Republican legislature, he expanded Medicaid, passed an Earned Income Tax Credit, established the state’s first public pre-K, and passed one of the most progressive anti-dark money bills in the country.

He was the first governor in the country to protect net neutrality through Executive Order.

Every day, Steve heads to work at the State Capitol committed to ensuring that Montana remains the best state in the nation to live, work, start a business, and raise a family.

Bullock was born in Missoula and raised in Helena. He attended public schools in Helena and graduated from Helena High School in 1984. He received his undergraduate degree from Claremont McKenna College and his law degree with honors from Columbia University Law School in New York.

Bullock and his wife Lisa have three children: Caroline, Alexandria and Cameron. [Official Governor Website]

Fun Fact: Steve Bullock was one of just three Democrats to win gubernatorial elections in states carried by Trump in 2016.

On the Issues

Steve Bullock is running on one issue — addressing the toxic issue of money in politics.

On Day One, he will sign an executive order requiring every company to disclose every dollar they spend or contribute to influence our elections if they want to do business with the largest contractor in the nation — the federal government. With the stroke of a pen, the biggest corporations in the country will have to choose between stopping their dark money games or losing business forever.

With the same pen, he will empower federal agencies to go after the secretive groups who corrupt our elections, enforcing our laws and reversing years of inaction. He will prioritize passage of a national Disclose Act, forcing secretive donors out into the open, and work to ban Super PACs from American elections. And, he will direct the Solicitor General to begin the process of appealing and ultimately overturning the Supreme Court’s disastrous Citizens United decision.

The Roadmap:

  1. Executive Order to Crack Down on Dark Money
  2. Empower Watchdogs to Enforce Our Campaign Laws
  3. Ban SuperPACs
  4. Pass Federal Disclose Act to End Dark Money
  5. Build the Movement to Overturn Citizens United
