WASHINGTON – The Lincoln Project, a group of prominent Republicans working to prevent the re-election of President Donald Trump and members of Congress who support him, unveiled a coalition of veterans, members of the military and individuals from the national security community who are joining in its effort to turn out the anti-Trump vote.

The Project said in a written statement that the nearly two dozen members of The Veterans and Military Community Leadership Coalition represent just the “first wave” of military and national security people joining its efforts in the wake of a “Republican National Convention that set out to stoke the flames of fear and racial tension.”

In addition to encouraging the public to participate in the electoral process, the coalition members will actively engage the military and veteran communities to spread the anti-Trump Lincoln Project message.

At the same time, the members will be encouraging veterans to help ensure a free and fair election in November by signing up as poll workers and volunteers across the nation.

“Our veterans, service members, and their families know what a leader should be and have seen first-hand how Donald Trump has failed his sacred duty as Commander-in-Chief,” said Fred Wellman, The Lincoln Project’s senior advisor for Veteran’s Affairs.

“Words are not enough to show support for them and now we continue to face a global pandemic amid efforts to undermine our national elections,” Wellman continued. “So, now we are called upon to step up again and fight for our nation and volunteer at home to serve locally in our communities as poll workers and supporters when so many cannot because of their risks of illness.”

The coalition members are: Former Navy Secretary John Dalton; retired Army Lt. Col. Bob Andrews; Retired Army Maj, General Donna Barbisch; former Navy Lt. Daniel Barkhuff; retired Army Col. Joseph Collins; former Navy Lt. Chris David; Gold Star Mother and retired psychiatric-mental health nurse Judith Gentz; Purple Heart recipient Ernesto Hernandez; retired Army Lt. Gen. Mark Hertling; former Army Lt. Andre Hollis; wounded veterans advocate Blair Hughes; retired Army Col. Mike Jason; retired Marine Col. Scott Jensen; retired Army Lt. Col. John Lock; U.S. Cavalry Officer Brennan Mullaney; ex-airborne infantryman Matt Pelak; National Guard mother Jessica Piper; retired Army 1st Sgt. Curtez Riggs; military and veteran advocate Colleen Saffron; former Navy Lt. Glenn Schatz; former Navy Electronics Technician Daniel Tapia; and former Army Capt. Matt Zeller.

“We are thrilled to have this incredible group of advocates join our effort at The Lincoln Project,” Wellman said.
