NewDem Action Fund Expands Investment in House Democratic Battlefield

WASHINGTON – The New Democrat Coalition Action Fund announced Friday that it is doubling down on its commitment to hold the Democratic House Majority by backing five additional challengers in their bids for Congress.

These include Alyse Galvin, who is running for an at-large seat in Alaska, Carolyn Bourdeaux, in Georgia’s 7th Congressional District, Patricia Timmons-Goodson, in North Carolina’s 8th Congressional District, and Kate Schroeder, of Ohio’s 1st Congressional District, all of whom have been added to the fund’s “Watch List.”

At the same time, the fund, formed by members of the New Democrat Coalition, has formally endorsed former watch list designee Sri Kulkarni, in the 22nd Congressional District in Texas, and Kathy Manning, in the 6th Congressional District in North Carolina.

“Evidence continues to mount that Democrats have a pathway not just to holding the House, but actually expanding their majority,” said Rep. Ami Bera, chair of the New Democrat Coalition Action Fund.

“We as NewDems are going to do our part to help identify and elevate top-tier candidates with a path to victory and a commitment to collaboration and good-governance once elected,” he said.

The NewDem Action Fund supported its first round of candidates in July of 2019. Its candidate-oriented “frontier” program supports candidates at two stages: The first level of support is a candidate “Watch List” for promising candidates the Action Fund has not previously endorsed. The second level is full endorsement.

Friday’s announcement grows the number of NewDem-backed candidates to 21, and for the second time in a row, NewDems are releasing a “Watch List” comprised entirely of female candidates.

Endorsed Frontier Candidates:

  • Hiral Tipirneni, Ariz.-06
