NewDem Action Fund Endorses Six More Candidates, Adds Another to Watch List
WASHINGTON – In its ongoing commitment to expanding the Democratic Party’s majority in the U.S. House of Representatives, the New Democrat Coalition Action Fund announced six new formal endorsements Monday.
The coalition, founded in 1997, is composed of 104 House Democrats and is the largest ideological caucus in the House, according to the group’s website. During the 2018 midterms, the NewDems helped uphold the Democratic House majority by contributing around $18 million to elections, flipping 32 of 40 net seats in the process.
NewDems newly endorsed candidates include: Sara Jacobs, D-Calif.; Cameron Webb, D-Va.; Amy Kennedy, D-N.J.; Nancy Goroff, D-N.Y.; Jill Schupp D-Mo.; and Marilyn Strickland, D-Wash. Ammar Campa-Najjar, D-Calif., was added to the group’s watch list of candidates.
The full list of the New Dems’ endorsements and watchlist candidates can be found on the coalition’s website. An endorsement from the coalition is considered highly influential, as more than 40% of House Democrats are NewDem Coalition members.
“The urgency of this moment is unquestionable,” Rep. Ami Bera, NewDem Action Fund chair, said in a statement. “That’s why voters across the country are lining up behind pragmatic Democrats in support of affordable health care, economic opportunity, women’s rights, and so much more.
“By amplifying pragmatic voices across the country and putting competitive seats in play, NewDems’ central role in shaping this cycle extends far beyond the House,” Bera’s statement continued. “Our candidates are working hard to elevate legislative races and drive up turnout in the battleground states we need to flip the Senate and win the White House.”
