OH-10: Desiree Tims (D)

About Tims:

Desiree Tims was born and raised in Dayton, Ohio, and is a product of Dayton Public Schools.

Inspired by her grandfather, who was forced to leave school at age six to support his family as a sharecropper in the Deep South, Tims became the first in her family to earn a four-year college degree. Tims is a graduate of Dayton Dunbar High School, Xavier University, and Georgetown Law.

While an undergraduate at Xavier University, Tims volunteered with the 2008 Obama presidential campaign in Southwest Ohio. Her experience led to her service in the White House during President Barack Obama’s first presidential term.

Following her time at the White House, Tims worked on Capitol Hill for United States Senators Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, and Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y. Members of the Senate Black Legislative Staff Caucus elected Tims to serve as president.

While on Capitol Hill, Tims advanced important policy issues including reauthorization of the farm bill, minimum wage, affordable child care, healthcare, and climate change.

This work solidified her passion for public policy and inspired Tims to serve in senior advisory roles with the League of Conservation Voters and Child Care Aware.
