NY-22: Anthony Brindisi (D)
PROFILE

November 2, 2020 by TWN Staff

About Brindisi:

Elected in 2018, Anthony Brindisi has been an outspoken advocate for his district. As an independent voice and a tireless supporter of Upstate New York’s working families, Brindisi has developed a record of working with anyone, at any time, to get things done.

Currently serving his first term, four of his bills have already been signed into law by President Trump, including legislation to improve mental health services for Veterans and help prevent Veteran suicide. Brindisi successfully led efforts to require the Department of Defense to purchase American-made flatware, which is manufactured in Upstate New York and will bring millions of dollars to the local economy.

Brindisi was born and raised in Utica, just like his father Louis, who studied law before marrying Anthony’s mother, Jacqueline. When he was four years old, he and his five siblings lost their mother after a struggle with lung and brain cancer. Brindisi’s older sisters, Mary, Roseanne, and Eva, were instrumental in raising him.

Brindisi attended Mohawk Valley Community College before graduating from Siena College and Albany Law School.

Before he was elected to represent NY-22, Brindisi served on the Utica School Board and in the New York Assembly, where he earned a reputation for his bipartisanship.

Brindisi authored and passed his “21st Century Education Initiative ” to create a diploma pathway for high school students. Brindisi, 41, resides in his hometown of Utica with his wife and high school sweetheart, Erica McGovern Brindisi, a biology professor at Mohawk Valley Community College, and their two children, Anthony, Jr. and Lily Grace.
