About Eastman :

Kara Eastman has more than 20 years of experience leading non-profit organizations. She is currently president of Kara Eastman Partners, a small business that provides consulting services in the non-profit sector. 

An MSW in Social Work, she started Omaha Healthy Kids Alliance (OHKA) a non-profit that has raised more than $13 million to support green, safe, and healthy housing in Omaha. OHKA has served over 4,000 Nebraska families.  She has been a board member of the Non-profit Association of the Midlands and has served as an appointed member of the mayor of Omaha’s Fair Housing Advisory Board.

In 2014, she won election to the Board of Governors of Metropolitan Community College (MCC) in Omaha, one of the top ten community colleges in the country. Elected as vice chair of the board, she strengthened non-discrimination policies, developed contractor training programs, and led the initiative to ban tobacco usage on all MCC campuses. 

Eastman won the 2020 Democratic Primary by 20,000 votes and is facing off against Don Bacon in November 2020. Eastman and her husband Scott, an associate professor of history at Creighton University, live in Omaha, while their daughter, Sabina, has just started college at her mother’s alma mater.
