WASHINGTON – Democratic National Committee Chairman Tom Perez on Thursday called for a recanvass in Iowa following a glitch in a computer app that has delayed the release of complete results from the state’s Democratic caucuses earlier this week.

“Enough is enough,” Perez said in a Tweet Thursday afternoon.

“In light of the problems that have emerged in the implementation of the delegate selection plan and in order to assure public confidence in the results, I am calling on the Iowa Democratic Party to immediately begin a recanvass,” he said.

He later clarified his intentions in a second tweet explaining “a recanvass is a review of the worksheets from each caucus site to ensure accuracy.”

The Iowa Democratic Party will continue to report the results, he said.

Perez’s comments follow a New York Times report stating the newspaper found more than100 precincts reported results that were internally inconsistent, that were missing data or were not possible under the complex rules of the Iowa caucuses.

The Times also noted that there was no evidence the inconsistencies were intentional.

The results of the caucuses, which were not immediately available the night of the contest, have been slowly released in the days since, with former South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg a hair ahead of Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., with 96% of precincts reporting.

At present (mid-afternoon Thursday), Buttigieg is leading with 26.2% of the vote, Sanders is next with 26.1%, Elizabeth Warren is third at 18.2% and former Vice President Joe Biden is fourth, with 15.8%, the New York Times reports.

The results mean that currently both Buttigieg and Sanders would come away from the contest will 11 delegates each, while Warren would garner 5.
