MONROE, La. – A live, virtual forum featuring candidates for Louisiana’s 5th congressional district will take place Wednesday, Sept. 23 at 7 p.m. CST.

The forum will mark an opportunity for voters to hear from the candidates vying for the seat held by outgoing Rep. Ralph Abraham, R-La. Abraham, who has represented the district since 2014, pledged only to serve three two-year terms while on the campaign trail.

Nine candidates will contend for the district on the Nov. 3 primary ballot, according to Ballotpedia. Just one candidate from each party will advance to the district’s general election to be held Dec. 5.

Democratic candidates for Louisiana’s 5th congressional district are: social worker and small-business owner Candy Christophe; attorney Jesse Lagarde; Grambling State University Executive Vice-President Martin Lemelle; and retired engineer Phillip Snowden.

Republicans seeking to maintain their party’s control over the district with their candidacy are: business owner Allen Guillory Sr.; state Rep. Lance Harris; U.S. Army veteran Matt Hasty; delegate and Abraham’s former Chief of Staff Luke Letlow; and real estate developer and Ouachita Parish Police Juror Randall Scott Robinson.

The Louisiana Republican Party recently voted to install Brittney Reed as its new executive director, according to KPEL965. Reed, a contributor to numerous successful political projects and campaigns, will take over for former Executive Director Andrew Bautsch, who left the position to work for Letlow’s campaign.

The forum can be streamed live on either Zoom or Facebook, according to KNOE News. The event is open and free to the public, and attendees must register in advance.
